Generate them and the controller stays qualified. Miss them and he is not permitted to control: the nation has paid for a capability it cannot use. The failure is structural, not individual — fast jets are committed to operations and to their own aircrew currency, so a controller competing for range time loses.

Accredited synthetic controls substitute for a proportion of both initial qualification and recurring currency. Without an accredited device no currency credit accrues at all — the hours are spent and the qualification still lapses. Two partners, two delivery layers. The aerial layer supplies the live platform and the qualified CAS aircrew no schoolhouse simulator can replace. The ground layer supplies the combat foundation skills the controller trade is built on. These are defence services, not goods — contracted separately from the equipment and licensed separately from it.
Accreditation covers the facility itself on a three-yearly inspection cycle — academic, simulation, operations, command and support functions all have to meet the standard. Lose the facility accreditation and recognition goes with it.
